Why Now?
People ask me why I’m deciding to release my own music now.
The answer is pretty simple.
Why not?
I’ve spent years playing with bands, performing at gigs, learning from incredible musicians, and figuring out who I am as an artist. Every stage, every rehearsal, every late-night drive home after a show has quietly been preparing me for this chapter. Looking back, I don’t think I was waiting. I think I was growing.
But there comes a point where you stop saying, “I’ll do it someday,” and start asking, “What exactly am I waiting for?”
For me, that point is now.
One thing age has given me is perspective. I’ve stopped worrying about fitting neatly into a genre or trying to tick all the boxes people expect musicians to tick. That’s just not me.
Some days I’ll write in English. Some days it’ll be Sinhala. Some songs might lean into soul and R&B, others into funk, pop, or something completely unexpected. I’ve made peace with the fact that I don’t have to pick one lane. My music gets to be as curious as I am.
I’ve also realized that dreams don’t accidentally happen. Nobody wakes up one morning with a crowd singing their songs back to them. You have to release the music. You have to show up. You have to risk hearing “no” enough times before the “yes” arrives.
You can’t build an audience while your songs are sitting on your hard drive.
So… I’m picking up the pace.
This year isn’t about reinventing myself. It’s about introducing people to a side of me that’s always been there. Most people know me as the guy in the band, the guitarist, the vocalist playing gigs around Colombo. That’s something I’m incredibly proud of.
